Unabridged Audiobook
I listen to a lot of audiobooks while working, and I've been hooked on the litrpg genre since first discovered it. I've listened to a fair amount in the past year, and this is one of the better books in the genre. The narrator also does a good job and reads at a decent pace; nothing annoys me more than a narrator speedrunning a book. He does use an effect on his voice when speaking for a few of the characters in the book, which was initially disconcerting. I can see why they decided to use it, and after the first few lines I was okay with it, but I could also see how others might not like it. That said, it isn't overused and doesnt detract from the experience (imo). A lot of the books I've listened to in this genre suffer from the same issues. Poor writing, bad pacing, whiney mc's, inconsistent motivations, etc... This is one of the few I've come across that doesn't have any of those problems. The author wasn't afraid to spend half the book building his world and laying the foundation for the character's journey in it. I've heard people complain that it was slow starting, but I prefer a story that builds anticipation and gives you a chance to sympathize with the characters rather than rushing headlong into conflict. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book if you are a fan of litrpg , or interested in checking out the genre. I'm tempted to get start reading the other books in the series, but I'm going to hold out for the audiobooks as long as possible.
