Summary
The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

The Eye of the World, the first novel in Robert Jordan's #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, follows Moiraine Damodred as she arrives in Emond's Field on a quest to find the one prophesized to stand against The Dark One.

'These veteran narrators keep the plot moving and the narration fresh' — AudioFile Magazine

This program is read by Audie Award-winning narrators Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, and includes a bonus interview with the author.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

When a vicious band of half-men, half beasts invade the Two Rivers seeking their master’s enemy, Moiraine persuades Rand al’Thor and his friends to leave their home and enter a larger unimaginable world filled with dangers waiting in the shadows and in the light.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

I am a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. After reading only the first book I am hooked on this fantasy world too. This series is definately LotR and GOT caliber.

I fell in love with this series in the early 2000 after years of reading the hard copies. The audio version is fantastic to any fantasy fan out there I would recommend you listen to it.

Loving both the book and the narration. HOWEVER, there are certain chapters where the audio jumps. I re-winded it a few time to double and triple check.

AT first I did not like the narration but I admit that over time I grew to appreciate his differentiation of voices. I don't mind long epic novels and found that this met my need for a good long book. The author gives so many details in his description that you have no difficulty imagining the characters, the setting, and the conflicts taking place as well as the transformations in the main characters as the develop in the story. I started this book because Amazon id coming out with their version and I wanted to read it first before I saw it. I really did enjoy it and hope the movie version does not disappoint.

This is by far my favorite series... ever. There writing style, story, plot, and character development are all fantastic and only get better with each book. Brandon Sanderson does a great job finishing off the series following Robert Jordan’s unfortunate death. This is a must read for anyone who has ever enjoyed any book!

It was a good book. It's just I struggled to get through it. I understand way people like this book/series. It's just, even thought it was a good book, I don't have the interest to continue with this series.

This book was a hot mess of confusion and poor story telling, with a narrator that did everything he could to make it exciting and did not. I have wanted to read this book for years and was very disappointed. I would not recommend it.

It says that it is narrarated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. I was expecting him to do the male voices and her to do the female. Instead Michael has read the entire book except for disk 9 or 10. All of a sudden he was not narrating it but Kate was. This was really unusual.

I have really been trying to grow an interest in this book. It's not that the story is long. In fact, there have been books I've read where I wished there had been more of it because it lacked detail, character development, etc. This was part of why I chose the 30-hour book. But I have persevered through about 8 hours of listening, and VERY little has actually happened. There were a couple of chapters that gave me hope, and then it died again. I don't think I can waste more time on it. The narrator does a really good job. It might be for you if you enjoy very drawn-out fantasy. I haven't found most of the characters interesting, and the dialogue has been quite dry, in my opinion. I'm giving this 3 stars as I don't think it's poorly written and may be a matter of taste. However, if I'm not invested in any aspect of the book after that much time of listening, I dont think it's worth continuing.

I was not impressed by this book at all and after listening through Rosamund Pike's narration of The Great Hunt, I think it's wholly possible that the flat narration of this audio book is a large reason why. I have heard some fans really enjoy the fact that there are two narrator of different genders, but frankly, that's unnecessary if they are any good at voice work (and these narrators are not). Completely devoid of any engaging intonation and a weak character voices. The story itself I found frustrating--the character's a little boring and annoying--but I believe that some of this was the author's intent. I'd still recommend the book to other readers but would push for a listening of Rosamund Pike's version,

The book itself is wonderful, but the narration is awful. The narrators cadence, pronunciations, and inflections all sound like a radio broadcaster circa the 40's or 50's most of the time. The updated version read by Ms.Pike is much more pleasing to the ear, and fits the books genre and pace perfectly. My advice is to go with that audio version over this one.

A mediocre fantasy that hasn’t aged well at all. It has some enjoyable parts and it’s interesting reading as it’s one of the first superstars of the fantasy genre.

that type of book that you can follow around even when not fully paying attention. its very long but lets u get lost in the story and important details get repeated in a subtitle way, so i even if i was only half listening most of the time i still enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

This is my third attempt at getting into this series - this time via audiobook in the hope it would prove easier to push through. The overall storyline is great, epic fantasy is usually my cup of tea. However, I struggle with this series purely because there are so few likeable characters. They're shallow and predictable. The female characters are the worst of it - just very badly developed. I have been told it all improves in the later books and I just need to get to that point. It's audio I can listen to at work so I will hopefully get there and prove them right. I'd love to enjoy this series.

I had added book two to my library with three hours left in this book, something I do not normally do. If I had to recommend one single fantasy book based on my personal enjoyment alone, it would be the Eye of the World. While the Male narrator creates an exciting and brilliant landscape for you, the female does leave a bit to be desired. I would give the male 5 stars and the female 3 or perhaps 4. That being said, the narration is objectively good. Do yourself a favor and listen to this riveting tale of adventure and lore. GLORY TO THE BUILDERS!

Overall this isn't a bad book. It has an interesting plot and I did enjoy it. The problem was that listening to the book I kept on missing details or forgetting them from the last time I had listened so I ended up getting lost more than once. Heard good things about this series, thought I would try it. Each volume is extensive, so keeps me in the world for longer than most. I commute several hours each day, so that is extremely important. The narrator took some getting used to. Mostly because of the over-acting he employed for the prologue. but he leaves it in the prologue, and as he settles in, he turns out to be a narrator much to my liking. Over all, very good!

This is my second time listening to this book (as it has been about 7 years since the last run-through). It was better than I remembered and I couldn't stop listening, sometimes sitting parked in my driveway to get through a tense chapter. I will agree with a previous reviewer though where it was said to be confusing out of the gate - very odd start to the book, but listen on!

After the first ten minutes of listening to this book I almost gave up on it. It was hard to know what was going on and since the book starts with an ancient legend as a preface, it was confusing to get on board with the story. Definitely force yourself to get through the first CD before you give up...and by the time you are at CD 15 or so...you'll be hooked. Its a very long book, but I enjoyed it!

For fantasy readers this is the first book of 12 in succession. The character development and story line are classic and in a unique world brought to you by one of the all time great authors. The late Robert Jordan takes us on adventure for the ages. The 12th book hopefully soon to be released concluding the story the fans have been waiting on. If you are to think of getting in to this story start here.

Unfortunately this is one of the most boring books I've every encountered. I say unfortunately because it has all the elements of a really good story but the combination of the narrator and the slow pace of the story make it a waste of time. I found myself so uninterested that my mind wandered through most of the story so that when something interesting did occur I generally missed it and didn't realize what had happened until it was too late. Not only do I not recommend this book but I do recommend you not try another one. This is the second I've tried by this author and had the same problem with both.

I liked this book. I like the idea of multiple readers in theory... in practice, it got a bit confusing. Luckily I thought both readers were good... not necessarily great but definitely good. I am intrigued enough to try more books and see where this series goes.

Robert Jordan outdoes himself in the first of his Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World. The characters are alive and share the same feelings, fears, triumphs and regrets we might should we find ourselves engulfed in so many non-choices for our own lives. Few choose the path they are traveling, but when death haunts and hunts you, what else is there to do but follow where you are being lead -- but can you trust those you follow -- do you know their agenda truly includes your best interest? Or do they have plans of which you are unaware and may not serve you so well as they will be served. This is a story with more questions than answers -- as is life. It is the adventure which counts, the journey that matters -- in the end -- well -- we must all die in the end. An excellent journey to take. Thank you, Robert Jordan, thank you. T V. Vessels, Jr., author.

To reply to a previous reviewer: The opening chapter sets up the entire series. Even as a 7th grader nearly 17 years ago I understood this. This is an excellent series by a man that has lead a life that he can draw much experience from. Mr. Jordan has created characters and a world that sets him above most authors, let alone his fantasy competition. I recommend anything this man writes. My only criticism is that he doesn't publish fast enough!

I have really enjoyed the series. Robert Jordan and the Wheel of Time books were recommended to me by a couple of friends. I started reading the series about a year ago and am now on Book 9. I would recommend the series to anyone who enjoys begin swept into a world of mystery, intrigue, magic, and wonderful characters.

Sorry to be the party pooper my fellow reviewers. Many people have raved to me about this series and perhaps that built it up beyond what it could ever be in real life. There isn't anything wrong with this book and the reader is fine but it failed to grab me. It's enjoyable in the sense that if you like Tolkien and Goddkind and others like them, this will appeal in similar ways. Unfortunately because I have read so many other similar books, this one had nothing new to offer me. There were so many characters, events and titles that by disk 6 I still felt I didn't have a good idea of what was going on. That's the equivalent to a couple hundred pages.

Profile Avatar
Michael Collins

Absolutely wonderful! It seemed to start off slow, but soon pulled me in and held my attention very well. There are hints of other stories here, but not enough to bother. The narrarator took some getting used to, but once I did I liked his style. I look forward to the rest of this series.

The imagery and details are excellent. If one likes Tolkien and some of the other similar stuff, this is a step beyond that. I've read the first few books, but never picked up again. Too much to forget, and would have to re-read when the newer books came out. The story is large. Very large. Jordan does an excellent job at relaying the story and placing unobtrusive reminders to details that need to be remembered. There are many subtle ones that you understand if you remember them. This is actually the third time I have read the first book; even in this reading I’ve picked up new details I missed the other times. Much of it is because I know where many things will end up. As for the readers. They are good, and use lots of voices. I did find it interesting that with a man and a woman I had expected the use of both at the same time, but instead they read whole chapters. Not sure yet how they picked the ones she reads. I did notice it carries through the other books.

I liked this book a lot; in fact, I am now up to book 5 of the seriers. The one complaint I have is the two reader concept. I think it is almost always a bad idea to have two readers. Worse yet, the second reader, Kate Reading, changed the pronunciation of one of the main characters three times: calling her Moiraine, Moreen, Moraine. Moreover, you get used to the way a character sounds and when the same character is read with a different voice it is disconcerting. Michael Kramer should have read the entire book and series himself.

Profile Avatar
Jason Bailey

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had tried to read this book a few years ago, but just couldn't get past the first two pages. Listening to it was wonderful. It kept me awake and entertained during several long days of driving. I found the characters to be likeable if a little predicatable. There are a lot of characters and some of the names can be confused, so I'd suggest listening to the first one or two parts twice if you find that you are getting characters confused. I did that while waiting for the middle set to arrive.

Profile Avatar

First of all the narrator was just awful. I felt like he was broadcasting a news flash on 1950's radio. His characters were over exagerated and something out of a 1940's radio serial. Just horrible. Second of all the story is convoluted and jumps in at the beginning of book one to the middle of a story. I am assuming there is a previous story I am not aware of. Anyway the thing was a mess and I sent it back. Certainly no Tolkien or Donaldson.
