Summary
In a “sexy, suspenseful read,” #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts delivers “a slow-burning fuse of a plot that ultimately explodes in a nail-biting conclusion.”*

Shelby Foxworth lost her husband. Then she lost her illusions…

The man who took her from Tennessee to an exclusive Philadelphia suburb left her in crippling debt. He was an adulterer and a liar, and when Shelby tracks down his safe-deposit box, she finds multiple IDs. The man she loved wasn’t just dead. He never really existed.

Shelby takes her three-year-old daughter and heads south to seek comfort in her hometown, where she meets someone new: Griff Lott, a successful contractor. But her husband had secrets she has yet to discover. Even in this small town, surrounded by loved ones, danger is closer than she knows—and threatens Griff, as well. And an attempted murder is only the beginning...

I enjoyed the way the characters worked together and how the story evolved. But the surprise at the ending was not much of surprise at all.

Loved everything but the child’s voice.

I really enjoyed this one. A really great twisting plot with not-overly-predictable progression. Great descriptions of the art are just as moving as the pieces are to the characters.

not the best Nora Roberts book to be honest... I pushed thru to the predictable ending at double speed. usually she rules, this one was kinda just meh... phoned in.

After thoroughly enjoying 'The Witness'. this one was slightly disappointing - if you enjoy drawn out love stories, with a little bit of predictable suspense woven into the story line, this book is for you. I expected an 'on the edge of your seat suspense thriller', I was disappointed.

Got a little annoying after a while. Couldn't wait for the book to end. Predictable and simplistic.

this narrator is top notch, and the book kept you moving, and thriving in southern romance culture with mystery and intrigue.

I am a Nora Robert's long time fan and this book didn't disappoint. The narrator definitely gave the characters depth and it fascinated me how one person can make you believe that there's more than one. Five stars to both.
