I was going through a tough time for a couple of years and spiraling down into a pit. I knew I was full of negative self talk and need to think differently, and I came upon this audio book narrated by an aging author with ideas of God and faith. At first I didn't know if I could listen all the way through, but as I listened, I found many answers to why I was failing in life. I thought - is this it? All I have to do is change my thinking and change my life? I started listening to this book every time I got in the car and for about 15 months, until my life turned around, I listened to this audio book every day. I wanted to keep remembering that there was hope. I also began to pray more. Now, 10 years later, I decided I better start listening to this book again for a couple months. Not out of despair, but because of success. I want to keep riding this wave as long as I can and appreciate this wonderful life I have in this moment. This book gives me sound ideas to share with other people who are struggling and will help them to rise up like I did. Grab the ideas in this book that work for you. Not all of it will resonate, but I guarantee there will be a few principles that you will take on that will definitely change your thinking. I hope your life turns around like mine did.

don't let the other reviews discourage you...there is no other way to get through life, be it business or personal, without the "one" true GOD! this helps to keep you focused on what matters, staying on GOD'S path, and enjoy all the blessings he is waiting to give you!

I will admit when I first started listening to the book, I instantly lost interest. However, about 2 days ago I was encouraged (by God and the Holy Spirit) to try listening to the book again and it was phenomenal. I actually listen to the entire book in 2 days and I even did a couple of playbacks. The book is great and definitely worth listening too.

I think that this book is very clinical and not very practical ! There is some practical things in this book but all in all it is not for the adverage person.

It's not what I thought it would be, too spiritual.

This short read gave me the chills down my spine and encouraged me to rethink my definition of basic things like 'believing' or 'speaking'. I highly recommend this.

Personally I am enjoying this book.. I am of the opinion that everyone has a capability to research and investigate a book prior to purchasing it. If you bought this book and felt irritated that it had too much focus on God then consider it a lesson learned and move on. Whether it fits into your belief system our not does not undermine the fact that having a better life is in each of our control. We just have to find that thing that makes us unleash it.

This book is not for everybody - especially not for those who are offended by the liberal use of the Bible in a motivational series. Dr. Peale approaches the Bible as the wellspring of many of the ideas prevalent in today's "insipirational" movement. I tend to agree with him and would argue that many motivational speakers have pilfered some of the Bible's more profound ideas and repackaged them as their own (Covey/Chopra/Robbins/Zigler/etc). He places the Bible front and center and says "Here is how you deal with this life issue..." Now it must be said that the tapes reflect a certain bias of the times(1950's). There are some hints of chauvinism and overdue emphasis on material prosperity - but it doesn't detract too much from the message. So, again, if you are sympathetic to or curious about Christian doctrine - you'll actually appreciate this series - especially its no-nonsense delivery. But if you aren't you will feel "proselytized", most likely.

The description doesn't say that all of the teachings and ideas presented in this book are all based on Christian ideals. It sounded like I was at a Sunday sermon. I was anticipating a little more than "have faith in Christ and everything will be just fine."

Too much religion ! And the reader’s voice is not ok to listen to. Television and radio or other use especially the rigth voices which are nice to listen.

This book has spiritual words that are inspiring. If you don't believe in Christianity It might be suitable

They should really choose a different narrator. This mans voice is very distracting, sometimes makes the story difficult to hear. I can't handle hearing him talk, I won't be able to finish this book.

I found the book very inspirational and was a bit surprised in the huge focus on the bible and the word of God. However after listening to the whole book, I felt much better and looking forward to the next day with more energy and excitement.

The narrator sounds like a preacher. Kind of annoying at some point.

And if you've read it, you don't need to read the book. Let me sum it up for you: - Think Postively About Yourself (through Jesus) - repeat that 3 times - Think Happy Thoughts (through Jesus) - repeat that 3 times etc.

Although I've heard a lot of good about the book, I found this short edition to be very simplistic and agree with the other reviewers, very Christian. Uses Bible messages for your postive thoughts such as, "Through Christ I can do all things, which strenghten me" etc.

Should have been under spiritual heading, not self improvement.

While the overall messages in this recording are clear and, well, positive, I was surprised by how much of a tribute to Christianity this really was. I appreciate that many people find strength and positivity in their religious beliefs, but if you don't happen to be one of them, you may find yourself tuning out, thus losing some of the important information. I much prefered the "Power of Positive Thinking in Business" edition in this series.
