Winner of the Hugo Award

“The single most resonant and carefully imagined book of Dick’s career”—New York Times

It’s America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war—and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

This harrowing, Hugo Award–winning novel is the work that established Philip K. Dick as an innovator in science fiction while breaking the barrier between science fiction and the serious novel of ideas. In it Dick offers a haunting vision of history as a nightmare from which it may just be possible to wake.

The premise and set up was good, but the book could have done more with it. It leaves you wishing there was more of a climax, more story in general

The show was way better. It's not often true of books, but definitely worth it.

Jesus wept! How does this book have such a high rating? Nothing at all happens. Nowhere near the same league as fatherland which is what it suggested with. 10 hours lost.

Fell in love with the main characters and enjoyed their slow realization to the truth! The book seemed to be completed quickly…truly enjoyed it all!

I have not seen the TV show. storyline could have been good with a great premise, but ugh. just slow disjointed and boring. the ending was uneventful.

Not for me. It was difficult to keep my attention and, therefore, to follow, to the point that at the end of the book I couldn’t concisely summarize the point of the book to another person.

I LOVE the TV series. The book has so much wasted potential and the narrator made it worse.
