Summary
November 2009. An emaciated young lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, is led to a freezing isolation cell in a Moscow prison, handcuffed to a bed rail, and beaten to death by eight police officers. His crime? To testify against the Russian Interior Ministry officials who were involved in a conspiracy to steal $230 million of taxes paid to the state by one of the world's most successful hedge funds. Magnitsky's brutal killing has remained uninvestigated and unpunished to this day. His farcical posthumous show-trial brought Putin's regime to a new low in the eyes of the international community. Red Notice is a searing exposE of the wholesale whitewash by Russian authorities of Magnitsky's imprisonment and murder, slicing deep into the shadowy heart of the Kremlin to uncover its sordid truths. Bill Browder - the hedge fund manager who employed Magnitsky - takes us on his explosive journey from the heady world of finance in New York and London in the 1990s, through his battles with ruthless oligarchs in the turbulent landscape of post-Soviet Union Moscow, to his expulsion from Russia on Putin's orders. Browder's graphic portrait of the Russian government as a criminal enterprise wielding all the power of a sovereign state illuminates his personal transformation from financier to human rights activist, campaigning for justice for his late lawyer and friend. With fraud, bribery, corruption and torture exposed at every turn,Red Notice is a shocking but true political roller-coaster that plays out in the highest echelons of Western power.

Gassiott says very good book, loved that Bill took a stand on the corruption in Russia for his friend. The narrator did an outstanding job.

Absolutely amazing story. If you are not working in investment banking, the author tells a story of pros and cons of working in that field, and the hardships that potentially come along with this field of work. Even better, the author writes a story through his and others' experiences about the corruption in Russia, pre and post Soviet era. This book is both an educational, and an emotion evoking story. The narrator was great, utilizing different voices and accents to differentiate the characters. And you get a final narration from the author himself for the final chapter. I finished this audiobook within a few days. At some point, I'll listen to it again.

This is a powerful book. After listening I was shocked that this could all be true. I have, and will continue to recommend this book to everyone I know. Truly an emotional and gripping story, that I feel everyone should be aware of! 10/10

When I purchased this book ... didn’t know a thing about the author or the subject matter ... got intrigued by the title ... that’s all ... then after a few minutes of the narration I realized that I was in for a ride ... but even then didn’t hit me that I would learn so much about this particular instance in world and political history ... most of the atrocities that happen on a daily basis go unreported or unnoticed ... so I’m so glad I got this insight ... I hope someone makes a motion picture out of this book !!!

Great book and one that can be a preview of how individuals in power can abuse the same, It can be utilized as a message to all, that we have to be ready to stand up and defend what is right. Need more like this.

Excellent. Why this and other similar stories are not exposed daily is beyond me. And shameful that US politicians - especially Obama (wish that was explained; always a hidden agenda in American politics and leaders!) - would not support the bill. Story and narrator excellent sharing this with family and friends.

Best narrator I've heard out of roughly two dozen audiobooks. He nails accents and subtly changes voices for different characters.. I listened at 1.8x normal speed, it really holds the attention.

I loved this book. The story is enthralling and what seems like it should be a far fetched movie script but turns out to be all true is the most incredible thing about the story!

It's a harrowing story of the author's fight for justice in Russia, to protect the good name of his attorney and friend, Sergey Magnitsky. It's an inspiring story of a wealthy and powerful banker who became an accidental human rights activist. A must read for everyone who wants to understand the ongoing situation in Russia under Putin's rule. Human life in Russia has no value.

Fascinating story even with the arrogance of Browder. It is not an edge of the seat book but one that opens up some interesting light on Putin’s Russia.

This book should be read by everyone concerned about Russian interference in our elections and the evils of Putin and his corrupt oligarchs. Amazing story of courage and persistence in the face of extreme threats of violence.

This book was well-written, detailed, informative, and chilling to the extreme. The narrator was perfect. My only beef is the author's repeated assertion that his friend died because of him - the author. I get a bit tired of this sentimentality: His friend died because of the decision he made to remain in the path of extreme danger. Give his the respect of his decisions! Other than that Bill Browder must be commanded for his fight against corruption, all the more so when faced with such a ruthless and formidable adversary as Putin.

This story was gripping. I found it fascinating and appalling. I had heard of the Act but never thought anything of it until reading this. So unbelievable what goes on in Russia, I thought my country had corruption issues (South Africa) and it does, but the scale of it in Russia is something else! Enjoyed the narrator too!

What a incredible story that reads like a novel which it is not, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see how corrupt governments operate. What rare opportunity the author had to shed light on a crime for the whole world to see. One of the other reviews of this book mentioned the author may still experience a untimely demise and I agree 100%. Oh and the narrator of Red Notice is the best narrator I've heard and I will search for books this narrator has recorded he is that good. What a amazing story!!

Superb listen. Well read. I sincerely hope the author lives to meet a natural death. As I am English and having watched poor Alexander Litvinenko die with horrific speed on nightly newscasts the only surprising thing about this book is that Bill Browder still draws breath. Mr Browder shines a light on the malevolence that emanates from Russia and Putin with his personal experiences from that sad but dangerous country. Fascinating.

I found this book to be equally shocking and entertaining (don't start listening unless you have 14 hours to spare in one day). I was born in Russia and still I wasn't aware of everything described. While this is clearly one side of the story I do believe the author in most of his claims. If you have any interest of what has been going on in Russia in the last few decades - this would be a must to read (sorry - listen) book for you. The narrator is outstanding, BTW.
