#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The official novelization of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the blockbuster film directed by J. J. Abrams.

More than thirty years ago, Star Wars burst onto the big screen and became a cultural phenomenon. Now the next adventures in this blockbuster saga are poised to captivate old and new fans alike—beginning with the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And alongside the cinematic debut comes the thrilling novel adaptation by New York Times bestselling science fiction master Alan Dean Foster.

Set years after Return of the Jedi, this stunning new action-packed adventure rockets us back into the world of Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Luke Skywalker, while introducing a host of exciting new characters. Darth Vader may have been redeemed and the Emperor vanquished, but peace can be fleeting, and evil does not easily relent. Yet the simple belief in good can still empower ordinary individuals to rise and meet the greatest challenges.

So return to that galaxy far, far away, and prepare yourself for what happens when the Force awakens. . . .

Praise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

“Like all the best novelizations, Alan Dean Foster’s adaptation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens enriches the movie experience. The novel goes beyond simply giving us insight into the characters’ thoughts, with plenty of additional scenes painting a broader picture of the galaxy.”—New York Daily News

“Fast-moving, atmospheric and raises goose-bumps at just the right moments. [Foster] not only evokes entire onscreen worlds . . . he also gives us glimpses of an even more vast, unseen universe.”—The Washington Post

“Was my experience of the film enriched by the book? Yes. No question. Is the novelization worth reading? Yes. . . . Foster has written a book that captures the spirit of the film, while presenting additional information that helps answer some of the questions that linger.”—Coffee with Kenobi

As a fan of the Star Wars and having posted positive reviews here of other Star Wars audio books, I will make this one brief. I have not seen the movie and opted instead to listen to the book first. Let me begin with the positives. The voice characterization done here was very good. The Han Solo voice was particularly well done. However, for me, that's where it ends. This story was lazy writing at best. There is so little new here. Once again, the writers took a feel good ending at the conclusion of Episode VI, then promptly ignored all of the great novels and canon established since then surrounding the Star Wars universe. What we are left with is a very cheap, transparent rewrite of Episode IV with a few new characters meant to step directly into the roles of those before them for the purposes of future exploitation. Punctuated by the truly tiring theme of "everything went to hell after our big victory" and a cheap, meaningless death of a beloved character for no apparent reason, we are left with a shadow of Star Wars. Non-threatening and not even slightly believable villains, a trumped up weapon that was ridiculously easy to defeat coupled with finger in the eye to the history of the franchise, this was a laborious and tiring novel.

Narrator was good, story is poodoo. Disney has created some expensive - but lackluster - fan fiction with this new sequel trilogy. Heir to the Empire has a much more fascinating story and better treatment of characters. Read that instead.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next installment. I was really impressed by the narrator and the ambiance music and B.B.-8 sounds made the experience very immersive and easy to get wrapped up in. I didn’t want to stop listening to it!

Love this, it fills in a big part of some of what I thought was missing or I didn't understand. I wanted this in paperback but I do love audiobooks so this is great. Excellent storytelling by the author and I've always liked this narrator his voice is clear and oftentimes soothing.

The author and the narrator have done an excellent job. As always you get more from the book than you do at the movies. I am enjoying my job more now because I'm listening to books as I drive road trains. Keep it up guys.

The book was much better than the movie, but still missing too much of the original feel. The storyline was a little forced. It does explain a few things that the movie just has no explanation for. I wish I had read/listened to this before the movie. The narrator was good, it's just a little hard to get past the guy doing a female's voice :P Audiobook good, book average.

Wow. Such great production value. A few extra pieces that advance the plot of the movie, but not too much. Sound effects used, music used. Just a huge bucket of win, this audiobook b
