Summary
“I’ve been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don’t know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she’s scared. But I will.”

Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life.

Colin’s job was to abduct Mia as part of a wild extortion plot and deliver her to his employers. But the plan takes an unexpected turn when Colin suddenly decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota, evading the police and his deadly superiors. Mia’s mother, Eve, and Detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them, but no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family’s world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how, even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

I guess I’m wondering why everyone said this was suspenseful… you know the story the entire time. It’s a strange, sad story but it drones on and on and is extremely boring.

This was an amazingly depressing book. I don’t think the twist at the end was really worth it.

This was a simple story with easy to follow common plot. The characters were simple to guess their roles throughout the story. The saving grace of the book was the epilogue that eventually provided the readers as to the title of this book. Otherwise, I wish the character developments were stronger and much more deeper, especially the evolving relationship between the captive and the captor. This could have really brought the plot of the story to a heightened level regardless of it's predictability. I definitely appreciated having multiple narrators reading the roles of the 3 to 4 main characters in which the story unfolds through their voices.

The reviews were so good that I was excited to read this. Personally I found this to be extremely slow and I got about halfway through before I quit listening. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen and it just did not keep my attention at all.

A fabulous book with twisty plot line. So much better than the movie which did inspire me to read the book. The author has just enough detail to keep you engaged while not leaving you mired in detail. Recommended for drives or commutes - not a beach or cruise read. Hope you Enjoy this book experience

Although I found some of the prose a bit cliche I loved the story and the characters and was very involved and emotionally drained by the end - a great read (listen)

This book kept me captivated from the first sentence. The plot twists and turns and always kept me guessing what was coming next. The narrator was easy to understand. The ending was a bombshell. I never saw it coming.

What a great story! Loved the twists and turns and the end was a surprise. The narration was a bit annoying but I did like that there were three distinct voices for three distinct characters.

I liked the book, but I think it's slow and ends abruptly without resolving the trama. Very well narrated though.

This was my first audio book and I thought I'd hate listening to people read to me in horrible renditions of characters but this book was absolutely delectable to the very end! It drew me in right away, I drive a lot for work so It was like a movie playing the whole time! I didn't see the plot twist coming at the end AT ALL!! Bravo! I'm a harsh reviewer but for this book 5 stars.

The epilogue that everyone thinks is good, I think is the most expected! Right through the middle I figured it out but hoped I was wrong. Also the narrators were pretty bad. The woman in the beginning, her constant breathing between sentences and her bad American accent!

I enjoyed the audiobook. Great to listen to in car, or while on walks. Great book from start to finish.

Good to the last drop! I live near the Chicago area so the references to familiar places added a smidge more appeal. But you don't have to live near Chicago to love this book!

This book had me captured from the start. I like how it was narrated by different speakers which kept things very interesting. I was waiting to here from Mia and when finally she spoke at the end and it totally twisted the story I was shocked. Great read.

Profile Avatar
Sarah Hollenbeck

Well-paced, but lacking in any original character development. Stereotypes (including.racist ones) abound! The voice of Eve as Gabe is unbearable.

Profile Avatar
Emily Yeskel

Very slow...did not keep me going. The best part was the epilogue at the end.

Profile Avatar
Colette McDuff

I love this book!! Kept me on edge the whole time. From start to finish, a great thriller.

Profile Avatar
Lisa Kinsey

This book was enjoyable. I looked forward to reading more from this author.

This book had me from the beginning! The detective's narration is a little cheesy (he does a private eye monologue voice) but I still really like that there are different narrators for the main characters.

Profile Avatar
Linley Coward

Enjoy the different narrators and story line. Particularly the twist at the end.
