Abridged Audiobook
I enjoyed listening to the world of New York City excess in Cosmopolitan: A Bartender's Life. From why some bars don't serve Long Island Iced teas to the story of the lesbian invasion at a bar one night, this book has a multitude of little stories from the trenches of the bar. At only a handful of CDs, this was a great book to listen to when wedged between a couple long unabridged listens. Lots of fun...recommend.
Nothing earth shattering here but a good insider's view of the bar, some nice light history on various liqours, and a bartender's review of his customers.
Overview of running a bar from this bartender's view; interesting discussion of the food/drink industry; reader is good but very little change in inflection...makes one wonder why someone would choose to bartend if life is that drab. I would have enjoyed more of a review of the customers' personalities to give the book a little more life.
I didn't realize this was going to be so much of a 'novel'. I expected more of a raucus account of the life of a bartender, meaning day to day. So while the novel was interesting, I much prefer non-fiction, so it gets an average rating from me. For what it is, it's quite good.
